PRINCIPAL VETERINARIAN
Dr. Tony Doherty is a leading equine veterinarian on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. He has been providing veterinary care for horses for over 30 years having graduated from the University of Dublin in 1990 with an honours degree. He was admitted as a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in Equine Surgery in 2010.
After a brief time working in Ireland, he moved overseas to work in Asia and the Middle East, before moving to Australia with his family in 2002, to settle on the Sunshine Coast.
Throughout his career, Dr. Doherty has been dedicated to providing the best possible care for his equine patients. He is well-known for his compassionate and attentive bedside manner, and his knowledge of equine anatomy and physiology is unparalleled. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of lameness and other orthopedic conditions, as well as the treatment of infectious and metabolic diseases.
In addition to running his own practice, Dr. Doherty is also an active member of the Australian Veterinary Association and Equine Veterinarians Australia. He regularly attends major continuing education events both in Australia and overseas to keep himself informed and up to date with the latest treatments and technology. He also officiates at race meetings held at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club.
When not working Tony enjoys spending time with his family or cycling or mountain biking.

Dr Nick graduated in Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney in 1983 and undertook an internship at the University’s Rural Veterinary Centre in 1984. The next four years were spent at Massey University in New Zealand as a Junior Lecturer/Lecturer undertaking a PhD in laryngeal hemiplegia and receiving post graduate training in Equine Surgery. He was admitted as a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in Equine Surgery in 1988.
Nick Obtained Fellowship of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Equine Surgery in 1990 and was granted Specialist registration in Equine Surgery by the NSW Veterinary Surgeons Board in 1991, by the ACT Vet Surgeons Board in 1997 and by Queensland in 2001. Nick has been an examiner, at Fellowship level, for the ANZCVSc in Equine Surgery since 1997. He has published approximately 25 scientific papers with special interests in respiratory tract and orthopaedic surgery, particularly arthroscopy. Since 1996, Nick has been a Consultant Equine Surgeon in Private practice, providing surgical services and second opinions on cases and radiographs for veterinarians in equine clinics throughout NSW, the ACT, Queensland and other parts of Australia. Nick consults and operates at the Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary Clinic several times a month.

Taylor grew up on the Sunshine Coast with a love of horses and regularly competed in dressage and eventing at local events.
Pursuing her passion to become a veterinarian, Taylor completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours at the University of Queensland, regularly coming back to the coast to see Tony and to work within the practice as a student and nurse, to gain invaluable hands on experience.
After graduating, Taylor relocated to Sydney and completed an 18 month internship, in equine medicine and surgery, at Randwick Equine Centre. Following this, she continued working as an associate with a focus on racetrack and general ambulatory practice.
While at Randwick Equine Centre Taylor developed a keen interest in sports medicine and lameness, in both racing and performance athletes, as well as sales and yearling work, advanced diagnostic imaging, standing surgery and ophthalmology.
Taylor is excited to be back on the Sunshine Coast and in her spare time she’ll be out exploring the coast’s beaches and national parks.

Georgie grew up on the Sunshine Coast and has always had a love of horses that started at a very early age. As a keen participant in equestrian pursuits, Georgie started working in the Thoroughbred Racing Industry at age 15 and knew her career would always involve horses.
Wanting to expand her skillset Georgie started working with Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary Clinic and soon after commenced her Cert IV in Vet Nursing. George loves every aspect of her current role and especially loves providing surgical assistance to Tony and Nick.
Georgie spends most of her free time with her husband and two beautiful kids going to the beach, hiking and keeping active. She has two cats, Burrito and Little Puss and a kelpie dog called Bella.
Trainee Vet Nurse
A highly valued member of the team, Taylah has worked for Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary Clinic since 2020. Growing up in a well known and respected Sunshine Coast horse racing family, and a regular competitor at show horse competitions, Taylah is well versed with all types of horses and disciplines.
Taylah splits her time between working with her father training race horses, and working with the Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary team and finds enormous satisfaction in being part of a highly skilled team dedicated to the treatment and care of horses. On the occasional day when she does get time off, Taylah loves nothing more than a long walk on one of the Sunny Coast’s beautiful beaches.

A highly valued member of the SCEVC team, Karla spent her teenage years growing up on a cattle farm and has always been passionate about animals and their welfare.
Karla’s career has always involved the care of animals and she spent a number of years volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary while also studying her Cert III in Captive Animals.
She later worked in the thoroughbred racing industry which gave her a greater appreciation of horses and started studying for a Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing, to further enhance her knowledge and skills. Karla finds veterinary work very rewarding, especially seeing the racehorses return to work after injury or surgery.
Karla loves spending time with her own pets which includes a sun conure parrot (Freddie), a horse (Shylo) and her kelpie (Delilah).

Bella is a dedicated vet nurse at Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary Clinic. Bella’s journey in the world of horses began in her teenage years in New Zealand???? where she competed in various disciplines such as showjumping, dressage, showing, and show hunter, keeping herself busy with hunting during the winter months.
Her passion for veterinary medicine ignited as she witnessed vets caring for her own horses. This led her to pursue a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at Massey University, where she honed her skills and knowledge in animal care.
After completing her degree, Bella gained valuable experience at Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre for two years. There, she worked in an emergency and referral hospital setting, collaborating closely with the New Zealand equestrian team and was also extensively involved in the racing industry.
Seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth, Bella made the leap to Australia to further expand her expertise in veterinary medicine and contribute to the well-being of horses in another corner of the world. With her passion for horses and her dedication to veterinary care, Bella continues to make a positive impact on equine health and welfare at Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary Clinic.

With a lifelong passion for horses, Maddie relocated to the beautiful Sunny Coast with her fiance late in 2022 to follow her dream of becoming a vet nurse.
Her passion for all things equestrian includes a love of show jumping which she hopes to be able to do again in the future when time permits. Maddie enjoys working with the Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary Clinic team where she can indulge in her love of horses on a daily basis.

Kate has always cared deeply about animals and their welfare and knew that her love of horses would mean she would end up working with them.
Having worked with thoroughbreds, and riding trackwork for many years, Kate knew she wanted to learn more about caring for these beautiful animals and started working with Sunshine Coast Equine where she commenced her studies to become a qualified vet nurse.
Kate would ultimately love to become a veterinary surgeon and will continue to pursue this as a career option once she has finished her current studies.
When she isn’t working or riding trackwork you can find Kate at the gym or running along one of the Sunshine Coast’s beautiful beaches.
