This horse came to us with excessive salivation and drooling, yet he was otherwise bright and behaving normally. With no nasal discharge – often seen in cases of choke or oesophageal blockage – we suspected oral pain as the culprit.
Using an oral speculum, we took a closer look and found the source of the problem: a perfectly sized stick wedged between his upper cheek teeth! Once removed, he was instantly more comfortable and back to eating and drinking as normal.
A great reminder that even small objects can cause big discomfort! If your horse is showing signs of difficulty chewing or drooling excessively, don’t hesitate to reach out.
